Abstract: Critical Analysis of Educational Reform Program for the Teaching of Portuguese in Angola


ABSTRACT                                                                                                                        






The current situation of Portuguese language in Angola raises interest in various fields. The matter of its teaching, as SL, is the matter that stands out in this essay.        

 The Angolan Government recently enacted the 2nd Educational Reform with the aim of improving the system of teaching and learning. Portuguese language is highlighted in this document. Not only in the role of an official and instructional language, but also for being the means for international communication in close relation with local Bantu languages.                                                                                                 

 In this context we try to find the best response to the need to train proficient users of PSL, and this requires the development and usage of methodologies that meet the challenge.                                                                                                                                 

Under this perspective, we decided to carry out the study entitled: Critical Analysis of Educational Reform Program for the Teaching of Portuguese L2 in Grade 7 in Angola, with the essential objectives of analyzing and suggesting improvements.
 
To this end, we used the empirical method along with the research and analysis of the relevant literature as well as the guiding documents of the Reforma.                              

 This dissertation is organized in five chapters, conclusions, recommendations, bibliography, and appendices.                                                                                           

We have concluded that the 2nd Educational Reform in Angola is an ambitious project, with some positive results, but still far from the ideal previously envisaged. It is urgent to improve working conditions, research, education and infrastructures.                      

 For the Portuguese language in particular, investing in teachers’ training and developing more and better educational conditions is crucial. This program has a well balanced structure and it facilitates acquisition, scientific knowledge and heuristics. The methods and strategies in place are nevertheless likely to develop the automatism of teaching and- learning. Here the teacher's role is crucial, not only for the enforcement of legislation, but especially for its potential constructive critique.
